Washington Township Green Team

The Washington Township Green Team is a committed group of volunteers dedicated to furthering sustainable initiatives, pursuing environmental goals, and championing greener practices throughout the township. Working alongside like-minded individuals from other township committees that share our vision and common passion, we aim to be the change we seek, and encourage others to join us in working towards achieving a more sustainable future!

 

What does it truly mean to be green? Since the formation of the WTGT back in 2009, we have been actively taking strides in improving energy efficiency, taking inventory of our precious natural resources, and finding new and creative ways to reduce waste and serve as an example to others to do the same.

 

The green team has encouraged consumers to shop locally while supporting small businesses at the Market at Long Valley, removed invasive plants on township land, and improved the habitat for our imperiled pollinators at Harrington Park . We have also been active participants in the Clean Communities program helping to keep trash and debris from our streams and roadways, and are currently looking for more ways to be involved at the local level.

 

Each year the Green Team partners with Long Valley Fire No. 1 to pull together local vendors, food trucks, and fireworks, for the fall Green Festival at the Middle School. Working with the township DPW we have also offered paper shredding and increased recycling opportunities. We are also working with the trails committee to increase trail access in our township parks and encourage residents to get out and explore all that they have to offer.

 

Through our partnership with Sustainable Jersey, the Green Team has received Bronze level Certification and continues to work towards achieving the next level of Silver Certification by pursuing even more sustainable actions each and every year.
